20 year-old James McPike, who was working a boot boy for Kapo at Birmingham City Football Club, had asked Kapo if he could keep a pair of his boots as a souvenir.
"He was obviously disappointed when Kapo replied he had taken them home with him," reports said. "He perked up considerably when he was tossed a set of keys."
When McPike, who earns around $600 per week said he wouldn’t be able to afford the insurance, Kapo drove him to his home, handed him the spare keys and the vehicle documents, and then insisted on paying for a year's insurance.
It is believed to be the biggest gift ever given to a boot boy, a type of "football apprentice" who learns the ropes from a senior player and is meant to help out in return.
Looking after the boots used to be a big part of the job, although the role is a little less defined these days.
Kapo, 27, who is on a £1.5 million a year (US$3 million) contract at the recently relegated club, is said to have bought the Mercedes as a "run around" when he arrived in Birmingham last year.
He also has a Porsche and a Hummer.
James, who usually drives a Fiat Punto, said he was unsure whether he would be allowed to keep the Mercedes when Kapo returned to the club after the summer break.
For now, the youngster’s main problem is finding the cash to keep it topped up with gas!
